The idea of the development of public gender equality is one of the most important factors in the development of society, from international organizations to governments, in many different platforms from civil society organizations to business world. In this regard, a large duty falls on the private sector. Based on 7 basic principles The Principles of Strengthening the Women (WEPs)], aims to contribute to gender existing work for gender equality of the private sector, developing ideas and programs, analytics available work, basic fixtures and reporting applications.

UN Women ]]] and UN Global Compact] WEPs, a common, business world, non-research organizations, reports, local governments and public institutions, has been developed at the end of a year study and logic of a multi-share group structureing of UN arbitration, and ]8 March 2010, introduced to the public at the World Women Day. Since this date, every year, business world leaders, female entrepreneurs, civil society world, UN organizations and governments meet “WEPs Annual Conference”, WEPs continuing to discuss, develop.

The development of WEPs in Turkey [ise is based on 2014. In May 2014, UN Global Compact Turkey is established in the leadership of private sector, civil society, academia, public institutions and representatives from the UN institutions. The group continues its work to contribute to the promotion of WEPs in the national and international area on the other hand, while offering a platform that supports the sharing of good examples concerning the issue of refugees of women. Since 2015, the 8th March World Women Day week, the opening of exchanges in many parts of the world, UN Women, UN Global Compact and Sustainable Exchange Initiative are made with the call of gender equality. Since the same date, “Gong Ceremony” is held in Istanbul, in order to call the business world to improve gender equality and support women’s economic life. During the engagement, new WEPs signatures are announced to the public.

The work of the Working Group and following the Gong Tören, the number of WEPs signatures in Turkey has rised to 130 as of 2016. Thus, Turkey is located in the second country, which is the most WEPs signatureer after Japan in the world.
