Unilever added a new one to its commitments under the Sustainable Life Plan, announced that 100 percent of plastic packages used in its products up to 2025 will be recycled and compostable. In this context, Unilever calls to the correct transition from the consumption model, which is based on the habit of using the rapid consumption products industry, at the end of the lifecycles of products, to the cyclic economy model.

Based on the description of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMV), which was established with the vision of speeding the transition to circular economy, and also collaborated with Unilever in this field, while only 14% of the plastic packages used globally are going to recycling plants, 40% of which are replaced in garbage sites. Three of plastic packages on the global scale are mixed into ocean ecosystems. It is expected to be much more plastic waste than fish in the oceans up to 2050.

Unilever announced that plastic materials used in packaging will be published by 2020 in order to show the stability of circular economy approaches and help create a "Plastic Protocol" for the industry. Unilever also announced that EMV will support the initiative of "New Plastic Economy" and will invest in a technological solution that will allow small laminated packages to be recycled in coastal regions where the risk of plastic leakage is highest.
