"Nature" magazine wrote that American scientists have managed to take water sample from Whillans Lake by pierce 801 meter ice layer. [

From the University of Montana John Priscu, the team said they received the image by sending a small camera to the lake from 30 centimeters diameter drilling hole they opened using hot water after receiving the samples.

Whillans Access Group (WISSARD) team, from the lake, indicated that water and residue samples from the lake are analyzed to determine whether they are hosting life.
Antarktika has more than 300 decimal lakes. Russian scientists work at Vostok Lake, the largest of these lakes in 3,4 kilometers depth.

English scientists who started drilling at Ellsworth Lake under 3,2 kilometers of the sea level had to slit their work due to technical problems.
American team was the second team that managed to get water and sediment sample from the detention lakes after the Russian team.

Whillans Lake, predicted to be 60 kilometers in mind, is located in the southeast of the Ross Sea.
