Antarctic Ice Effects Alarm
14.01.2008 Radikal
AFP - PARIS - According to the most comprehensive research made in the Antarctica continent, global warming increased its ice loss speed in the last 10 years by 75 percent. According to estimates, the amount of ice from the continent in 2006 is 192 billion tons. This figure is more than two floors of the amount of water poured into the sea in one year of the Nile River. This means the rise of 0.5 mm. in the sea level in the world according to the calculations made out of evaporation and precipitation. It is estimated that the sea level rises between 10-20 cm. In the case of a completely melt of Antarctica, it is thought that the sea levels can rise to meters. This threatens the population for delta regions where it is dense.
