]- More than half of the world population live in cities. By 2050, this figure is expected to be 6,5 billion, i.e. two of the world population.
- In developing countries, the rapid growth of cities and the increase of migration from rural to city has led to large increase in the number of mega cities. [
- While the population in 1990 is 10 million or more, the number of mega cities is 10, in 2014, it is seen that these figures reach 28 mega cities that contain 453 million people.
- Over poverty often concentrates in urban areas; national and local administrations strive to host the growing population in these areas.
